FAQs

Have questions about your handmade Friulane slippers? From sizing to care, this guide covers everything about our traditional, travel-friendly shoes from Italy.

Craft, Quality & What Makes Them Special

  • They carry a story - and a standard. Ours are handmade in Friuli, nestled between Venice and the Alps, where the style originated. We work with skilled artisans using time-honored techniques: hand-stitched construction, all-vegan materials, and fabric sourced with care. What makes them truly special is the balance - elevated yet easy, quiet yet full of character. An indoor outdoor velvet slipper, real vegan Italian footwear, enjoy. Due Lune Friulane: shoes with a soul.

  • Friulane slippers have become popular - but not all are created equal. Many lower-priced versions are machine-made, mass-produced overseas, or assembled with shortcuts and glue.
Due Lune slippers are made where the style was born, by artisans who still sew them by hand. Look at the stitching on the sole - if it’s the punto strega (a "witch stitch" technique), it can only be done by hand. In the traditional construction, no glue is used - just skill, thread, and time.

  • Every pair is handmade in Friuli, a region in northeastern Italy nestled between Venice and the Austrian border. It’s where this style was born - and where our artisans still carry it forward.

  • Yes - they’re two names for the same iconic shoe, rooted in Friuli. We say Friulana because it’s what we grew up calling them.
Locally, they’re also known as stafis or sciarpets.
    Pronunciation tip: Friulana = free-oo-LAH-nah.

  • Historically, yes. Today, we use durable recycled rubber inspired by that tradition - just without the road grit.

Wear & Care

  • They were originally worn by peasants as their “Sunday best” - for weddings, celebrations, and church. Over time, the Friulana moved indoors and outdoors alike. Due Lune slippers are made to do both: soft enough for home, sturdy enough for the street

  • Treat them like your favorite jacket: spot-clean with a soft brush or damp cloth. For deeper refreshes, cold water and a gentle detergent do the trick - just skip the tumble dryer and let them air dry, out of direct sun.

  • No - your Italian slippers are not recommended for rain. A light drizzle won’t hurt, but they are not made for wet conditions.
